Can I make a post by sending an email?

June 22, 2010 by Stephen Narwold

Not anymore 🙁

As of 6/10/2022 we aren’t able to maintain this feature. Please contact blog_support@ntm.org if you need to work out another way to post to your blog.

Yes. You can  make a post by sending an email to postbyemail@ntm.org from the NTM.org email address associated with your blog.

The format of your email message should be “plain-text.”  Stationary, embedded photos, email signatures and text formatting should not be included.

The subject of the email will become the title of your post.

The body of your email will become the body of your post.

Attached photos will be included with your post.

More Details

Deleting a Post – When your email has been successfully posted on your blog you will receive a confirmation message. Replying to the confirmation message will delete the post.

Content Filter – The normal content filtering process will work with “post by email.”

If you receive a “Violation” message indicating that your post contains a blocked word your post will automatically be placed in “Draft” and will not appear on your blog. If you receive an “Alert” message and your post needs to be modified you will need to follow the instructions for deleting your post in the confirmation message and resend the post with any necessary corrections.

Categories – If you want to specify the post category you may do so by putting the category in [brackets] before the subject. Example: (Subject: [family] Your missionary is still alive) will title your post “Your missionary is still alive” and the post category will be “Family”. The default category is “Uncategorized”

Tags – Tags may be specified by using “tags:” followed by a list of tags, all on one line. You may place them before or after your post content and they will not appear in the post. Example: tags: translation, travel, kids

Scheduling – Posts may be scheduled to appear on your blog at a later date or time specified in days or hours after your message is received. The scheduling tags may be placed before or after your post content and they will not appear in the post. Example: delay:1h delay:1d

Images – If you attach images, by default they will appear after the post text, in the order they were attached. They will be full-width images with no text wrapping so that they are optimized for viewing from any device. The first image you attach will be set as the “Featured Image”, and will appear as the post thumbnail on pages that use it.

If you would like to specify the order and paragraphs where attached photos appear, insert these placeholders: #img1#, #img2#, #img3#, etc. The first attached image will appear with the paragraph where you put #img1#, the second where you put #img2#, etc. Example: If you attach these three images (DSC_33.jpg, DSC_97.jpg, DSC_53.jpg) you would put #img1# where DSC_33.jpg should appear, #img2# where DSC_97.jpg should appear, and #img3# where DSC_53.jpg should appear. Any images you do not assign using one of the image tags will appear at the bottom of the post as usual
