What can I do to improve my writing?

December 10, 2009 by Stephen Narwold

Here are some simple tools to help you think about what your word choices say.  Get a sense of the impression you are making on your readers. See where you can make changes, quickly and easily, that will increase your effectiveness.  Also included are recommended free newsletter subscriptions.

“We We” stands for talking about “we” all the time.  Use this free “We We Calculator” to help improve your writing focus: http://www.futurenowinc.com/wewetext.htm

Use this free tool to evaluate a page already on your blog: http://www.futurenowinc.com/wewe.htm

FREE subscriptions to weekly newsletters from some of the most respected Internet authorities will help you grow in your ability to communicate more effectively.  These are secular writers so the NTM Communication team does not endorse everything they say, but most members of the web team read and learn from these sources:

It seems like our prayer letters are a report of what we are doing that we send to people who are praying for us and supporting us. We don’t want to be self centered but ministry centered. So it seems like it is an accountability thing, a report of what we are involved in so they understand how to pray and how their support is being used. So I don’t see how the business approach applies to us.

      Hi Diane,

Thanks for thinking about this. Your “ministry centered” presentation can either be self-centered or partner oriented.

If you mostly talk about what you are doing without using language that shows that you value the participation of your readers, you won’t have many readers and long-term, not many ministry partners.

What business recognizes as important for profit, we recognize as biblical principles of teamwork. There is some great advise and insight for how we can more effectively communicate our ministry in these recommended sources.

      Blessings,
      ~David
