How can I add my Facebook badge to my blog?

November 3, 2009 by Stephen Narwold

To add your Facebook badge to your blog, you will need to login to Facebook and create the badge there.  Then add a new Text widget to your blog and paste in the badge code.  You can add more than one badge in a Text widget.

To create a Facebook badge, login to Facebook and go to your Profile tab.  Scroll to the end of the left column and click on “Create a Profile Badge.”  With “Profile Badge” selected on the left, click on “+ Create a New Badge” on the right.

A Vertical layout would be recommended if you are going to include any items besides your Profile pic.  The Horizontal layout works well if you only include the Profile pic, and two badges fit next to each other in your blog widget area.

Once you have created your badge, choose “Other” under “Choose where to add the badge.”  Then copy the provided code.  You can edit the provided code using the “Code Hacker Tip” below or paste it into a new Text widget on your blog “as is.”

Once you’ve logged into the Dashboard of your myMinistry blog, the Text widget can be found under the left “Appearance” and then “Widgets” menu.  To add the Text widget to your blog, drag it from the left to the right column in the order you want it to appear.

To add your Facebook code to the Text widget, click on the widget to open it for editing.  You can add a title like “Find us on Facebook” and then paste your Facebook badge code in the space provided.  Make sure you save your changes before closing the edit view.

Code Hacker Tip: If you want a simple badge like what appears on this blog (www.ntm.org/david-abbott) you will need to follow the instructions above, but replace the parts of the badge that are unique to your badge and replace them in the code below.  Then paste your code in a Text Widget.

Simple Facebook badge sample code:

<!– Facebook Badge START –><a href=”http://www.facebook.com/david.l.abbott” title=”David Abbott’s Facebook profile” target=”_blank”><img src=”http://badge.facebook.com/badge/610466543.1324.1662995028.png” alt=”David Abbott’s Facebook profile” style=”border: 0px” /></a><!– Facebook Badge END –>
