“All in One SEO” (Search Engine Optimization) is the tool on your blog to help search engines like Google find your content quickly and place that content high in results relevant to what you write about.
You may customize the title, description and keywords for your blog and each individual page and post. To see what your current title and description is, go to www.google.com and search for your name. Example: “david kristia abbott”
The most important “All in One SEO” settings are those for your Blog Home page. You can edit these settings by looking under the left Settings sub-tab on your WordPress dashboard for “All in One SEO.”
There are three field you should edit:
- Home Title
- Home Description
- Home Keywords
The Title you choose is the single greatest factor, next to your blog address itself, for a person finding you in an internet search. I would recommend that you use your names, “missionaries” and “New Tribes Mission” in your Home Title. You may also choose to put a country and people group in your title.
(Example) Home Title: David and Kristia Abbott | Missionaries with New Tribes Mission
Next you want to provide a description of what a site visitor will find when they visit your blog. Keep the focus on how this will benefit a site visitor without being fake.
(Example) Home Description: The latest blog posts, photos, prayer requests, online giving opportunities, blog post subscription and contact form to help you Expand the REACH of the Gospel through the ministry of David and Kristia.
Keywords should reflect actual words that appear in your blog that are most relevant to what you write about and key search terms you want to be found by.
(Example) Home Keywords: david, kristia, abbott, new tribes, mission, missionaries, ntm, …
Be sure to “Update Options” when finished.
Individual blog pages and posts may also be optimized for search engines to index. Near the bottom of any page or post you should see “All in One SEO Pack” with Title, Description and Keyword fields.
Here’s an example of SEO settings for an “About” page.
(Example) Title: About | David and Kristia Abbott
(Example) Description: What David and Kristia do to Expand the REACH of the Gospel and what others say about the role they play on the tribal church planting team.
(Example) Keywords: david, kristia, abbott, church planting, gospel, communication, content manager,
Remember to “Update Page” when you are finished.
Individual posts may be optimized for search engine indexing using the “All in One SEO Pack” setting near the end of each post.
***If you have updated your blog title, description and keywords but notice 7-10 days later that Google has still not refreshed that information in their search results, please create an NTM Blog Help Desk ticket by emailing blog_support@ntm.org and requesting “Please submit a request to Google to refresh my blog home page cache.”
